An extraordinary and comprehensive interview! That’s what founder of Praktijk de Liefde and relationship therapist Joey Steur had with JAN Magazine in January. In conversation with Monique van Loon, Joey talks about the role of romance in lasting relationships and how to nurture romance.

Romance, being (and staying) curious and maintaining tension: these are topics that come into play in many relationships. Especially now that the days are always the same and almost all facets of life take place in one place. What do you surprise each other with?

What is romance to you?

In the article, Joey nicely brings out the nuance. She names the concepts of romance and desire, as well as the difference between how men and women deal with them (in general, of course). The following questions can get you started. What is romance to us? Can we accept the differences?

She discusses the essential role of communication and expectations within relationships. And, how often we actually don’t know about those expectations. What happens if you wait too long with that openness to your partner? How do you show that you appreciate your partner? Joey explains what works, what doesn’t and what the consequences may be.

A new movement begins with yourself

You may know it, the eternal wait for a compliment or sweet gesture from your partner. Plus the annoyance when such a gesture fails to materialize. Tricky. How do you deal with that? Joey tells how things can be done differently, in a fairly simple way. Because mostly it’s about the small movements, within the larger process toward change.

Finally, Joey mentions a few practical tips. For how to make and keep the connection with your partner even now, during this time. Just at home. Are you curious?
