Getting into a relationship as a single person

Being single: in Practice Love we see more and more people with questions about this. Questions such as: why am I failing to get into relationships, to keep my relationships? Or: my relationship is over but how come it didn’t work out again? In counseling singles, we look at what it means to be single. We reflect on what being single does to a person and the patterns that have developed from experiences in previous relationships.

How to continue as a single person

If you are satisfied as a single, then of course there is no problem. But when you don’t know how to go on and lose touch with yourself, that’s less pleasant.

In our individual counseling, we look at the underlying patterns. In doing so, it is important to go back to yourself. To find out what your expectations are. Expectations toward a partner and expectations you have toward yourself. Possibly a whole list of desires because we seem to demand more and more of ourselves and partners. From ultimate safety to thrilling excitement and everything in between.

What do you need in a relationship? In answering this question, you may come close to what you really desire in a partner. It may also help to remember that relationships need to grow and that it is normal to work for relationships. A relationship grows through attention and investment. A setback or bump in your path does not have to mean things are all wrong. It can be so valuable to explore pain points, enrich a fledgling relationship and make it stronger.

Your questions about being single don’t have to be answered alone. It can be nice to gain more personal insight with deeper questions. When you are with yourself you will naturally open up to new love.
