Increased need for couples therapy during lockdown
Our new location in Hilversum has been open for a few months now. And the number of applications is growing, we are increasingly allowed to receive clients from the Hilversum area: welcome! Practice Love is also open during the lockdown, on location or online.
Extraordinary to experience how working there differs from working in a busy city like Amsterdam. A different dynamic it seems. Thus, we see the need for clients to slow down in their process, and also to endure. Of course, both settings – right – have their charm and value.
The increased need for couples therapy is now evident in our practice rooms. In these times unlike any other, the pressure in some relationships is running high. Staying in the same house together week after week, seeing few other people, that has its effect on tensions that already existed.
Tension mounts
While in the spring it was still possible to slow down, enjoy too and tolerate each other, now it is sometimes a struggle. We also hear concerns about the zeitgeist in conversations with clients. Thoughts about the pandemic, politics and climate weigh on people and relationships.
And we yearn for more individuality in the process. Before the house was mainly the place for the relationship, now just about everything takes place inside; the work, leisure, hobby and recharging.
If you can’t manage to find that individuality at home, it helps to go out on your own. You can’t really give yourself a nicer gift right now. To a cabin on the moor or at the beach to refuel the ‘I’. But admittedly, that too is a challenge in lockdown. In any case, our counseling continues, face to face or if you are comfortable online.
