Last March, Edith Moolenaar started as a therapist in our new Haarlem office. With a background in family counseling, she now focuses on systemic couples therapy.

Relationship therapy in Haarlem, for example with couples who want to take the step to parenthood. With questions like: do we really want this together or are we overlooking something? But also couples with growing children who want to find a new path in their partnership together. Or whatever headaches about relationships.
“Relationship therapy can really become more normal as far as I’m concerned,” Edith says. “Think of it as an MOT for your relationship, not as the beginning of the end. So that, instead, there can be more depth, to take your relationship to another level.”
So where is the improvement in that?
Edith points out that it is often in the small, achievable things that then make something bigger. “Review with each other what you can do in the everyday. Take an evening walk together every day, or schedule a set time for coffee.” So things that are feasible and close at hand, like ordering a home menu. “And also put a candle on the table for once.”
Now that the big things are not (or less) attainable, it is important to look at what can be done, and where the richness lies. Ask each other the question: what rituals are we going to embed?
Edith also refers to Esther Perel, who describes the effect of consumerism on our relationships. There is often an almost automatic idea that things must be better, more challenging, more exciting. “But,” says Edith, “you can also be content with what is now is? Can it be so good enough? Can you be satisfied with what is there, or just with what is missing?” Sometimes questions like these provide a new insight: we actually have it very good together.
Space to catch your breath
The new practice space on Haarlem’s Zaanenstraat is spacious, bright and nicely situated on the garden side. A fine building with light colors where you can see the attention. Various disciplines, such as a haptonomist and an acupuncturist, work in the other rooms. “The building really has a serene and cozy atmosphere,” Edith says.
Welcome, then, for couples therapy in Haarlem, where together you may carry the relationship to another level. Would you like an appointment to get acquainted? Then please contact us.
