No matter how much we sit on our own islands, busy with personal plans and goals, we are always connected to others. And maybe sometimes we have lost that. We are connected to the people around us and to the people of our past. Even with earlier generations, ancestors and relatives we did not know, the absent ones.
Interaction patterns in families and between people are sometimes difficult to reverse and can transfer to subsequent generations. All in all, of course, it is also about the beautiful patterns, such as traditions and customs that give meaning and security. But also to patterns that are not so fruitful, that don’t actually give us anything, only a lot of struggling and pain.

What is the purpose of systemic therapy?
Within systemic therapy, we examine those disturbing patterns, we try to break them. This involves the important people in our lives, such as family, friends, colleagues, as well as the absent ones. What is the influence of these loved ones? And what is the influence of context and environment? By having conversations about this together, we make space for connection and create understanding. Thus, relationships can become better and more solid, even in the long run.
Systemic therapy connects us to others and teaches us to understand why we do as we do. Why do I react the way I usually react, such as during arguments with my partner? Or in the relationship with my children? Where does such a reaction come from? The problem does not exist in isolation; there is always a context that needs attention. ‘People are not separate, they are connected. You always have to see them in their context,” said psychologist Manu Keirse.
The therapists at Practice Love provide systemic therapy at various locations. In Amsterdam, Hilversum and soon in Haarlem.
