Arend Havinga, Relationship Therapist in The Hague

We are all connected to others. In meaningful relationships, we find recognition, support, and a sense of belonging. But such relationships are not a given. They require effort, patience, and sometimes, it hurts when the connection falters or seems to disappear. Giving up often means not only the loss of the relationship but also the loss of a part of yourself.

In our conversations, we explore how you are connected, what has changed, and what you want to improve. We look at your interaction: how you respond to each other, what is said, and how it’s said. With my background in orthopedagogy and my many years of experience in (foster) youth care, I understand how important it is to create space for attention and recognition – they are the foundation for growth.

As a relationship therapist, I want to contribute to that growth. I meet you with openness and without judgment, help identify desires, restore connection, and strengthen your relationship. I look forward to walking alongside you in this valuable process.

Background

Through my training as an orthopedagogue, I learned early on to see people in their context: no one lives in isolation; we constantly influence each other. This belief deepened during my many years working in youth and foster care. There, I saw how essential it is that important relationships are given space for attention, recognition, and support. This forms the foundation for growth and recovery. I bring that experience into my work as a relationship therapist.

"I believe in the power of connection, no matter how vulnerable it may be."
