You're looking for a relationship therapist. Perhaps for the first time, perhaps after a previous experience that didn't feel the way you had hoped. You want someone who truly understands you both, who doesn't take sides and who knows how to help you break free from patterns you've gotten stuck in together. Rightly so.
A good relationship therapist takes the lead without judging. He or she sees you both, listens to what's playing out beneath the arguments or the silence, and helps you put into words what's difficult to feel. At Praktijk de Liefde we work from three core principles: empathy (we see you), congruence (we are genuine and honest) and acceptance (we don't judge). That may sound obvious, but it makes all the difference.
Besides that, professional competence is important. Our therapists are all members of professional associations such as NVRG, EFT Nederland and VVS. They work from a shared vision and methodology: systemic therapy combined with EFT, Emotionally Focused Therapy. This combination is scientifically validated and works. Research shows that 70 to 75 percent of couples who engage in EFT experience significant improvement.
And one more thing: a good therapist doesn't necessarily help you stay together. Sometimes breaking up is the right path. The goal is clarity, connection or a respectful goodbye. What you need, not what the therapist expects.
We are the largest practice for systemic relationship therapy in the Netherlands, founded by Joey Steur, systemic therapist and author of the book Uit je liefdesdip. Our approach works with head, heart and body. We look at the patterns that repeat themselves (head), go to the emotions underneath (heart) and help you release tension from your body (body). We often do the latter with EFT: a method in which emotional blockages become visible and manageable.
On average, couples need 4 to 8 sessions for lasting improvement. That varies by situation, of course. Some couples are done after 4 conversations, others continue building for longer. We work without a waiting list, you're often welcome within 1 to 2 weeks. That makes a difference, because waiting often worsens what's already going on. Our clients give us an average of 4.8 stars on Google.
A session costs 179 euros during the day or 199 euros in the evening. Relationship therapy is not covered by basic insurance, but sometimes an employer reimburses part of it through business coaching. You also get access to the Relove app with us, a free tool to continue working with at home.
We have locations throughout the Netherlands: Amsterdam Centre, Amsterdam North, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven, Haarlem, Nijmegen and Tilburg. We also offer online relationship therapy via video calling. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face, and more practical for many couples.

You often feel that in the first session. You can expect to feel heard, that there's space for both of you and that the therapist is clear about how he or she works. At Praktijk de Liefde all our therapists work from the same vision and methodology, which provides consistency.
With relationship therapy you come together. Sometimes someone starts first with individual therapy to gain clarity, and the partner joins later. Both paths are possible.
Then therapy is especially valuable. We help you explore what's going on, what still binds you and what's needed. Sometimes that leads to recovery, sometimes to a clear and respectful goodbye. Both outcomes are okay.
If you're looking for a relationship therapist who is professionally competent, warm and direct, then you're welcome at Praktijk de Liefde. We understand that this can be a big step. You don't have to figure it out alone. Within 1 to 2 weeks you can come to us, without a waiting list.
